For Immediate Release

April 5, 2023

Saanichton, B.C. - The BCEHL is excited to announce the Players of the Year and the Coaches of the Year for the 2022-23 season in the Female U18 AAA, U18 AAA, U17 AAA and U15 AAA leagues.

Leah Barnard (Fraser Valley Rush) - Female U18 AAA

Leah Barnard (Fraser Valley Rush / Tri-Cities Female MHA) has been selected as the 2022-23 Female U18 AAA Player of the Year. Barnard's highlight filled season featured a league-high 60 points (26g-34a) in 31 regular season games.

The forward was a member of a Fraser Valley squad that posted a league-best record of 30-2-0-0 and she registered eight points (2g-6a) in four playoff games, en route to Fraser Valley's second consecutive Female U18 Championship. Earlier this season, Barnard committed to Western University in London, Ontario and will be studying sciences while taking the ice for the Mustangs next season.

Erik Pastro (Okanagan Rockets) - U18 AAA

Erik Pastro (Okanagan Rockets / Greater Vernon MHA) enjoyed a remarkable season, both individually and team-wise, that led the Rockets forward to earn Player of the Year honours. Pastro led the league in goals and points as he registered 67 points (32g-35a) in 32 regular season games.

The Rockets finished the regular season in second place, with a record of 26-5-2-1. In the playoffs, Pastro found another gear, as he led the league with 14 points (5g-9a) in six playoff games and helped them hoist the U18 Championship trophy after an undefeated playoff run. The 17-year-old also took the ice with the BCHL's Vernon Vipers this season, where he recorded one assist in two games played.

Jake Torget (Fraser Valley Thunderbirds) - U17 AAA

Jake Torget (Fraser Valley Thunderbirds / Langley MHA) received the Player of the Year nod after a rock-solid season in between the pipes for the Thunderbirds. The 16-year-old netminder started 20 games in the regular season and posted league bests in wins (17), goals against average (1.51) and shutouts (5).

Torget backstopped Fraser Valley to a league-best 28-6-1-1 record during the regular season, and an appearance in the U17 championship series.

Charlie Robinson (Vancouver NE Chiefs) - U15 AAA

Charlie Robinson (Vancouver NE Chiefs / Burnaby Winter Club) has been selected as the U15 Player of the Year after he posted a league-best 1.96 points-per-game, with 51 points (37g-14a) in 26 games played. Robinson also had a knack for scoring big goals, as he scored eight game-winning goals, which led all U15 skaters.

The Vancouver NE Chiefs captain led his squad to a second-place finish in the regular season, with a record of 23-5-2-0. Robinson's offensive numbers helped the Chiefs attain a top-ranked offense in the U15 league as the team registered 145 goals.

Ed Patterson (Thompson - Okanagan Lakers) - Female U18 AAA

Ed Patterson (Thompson-Okanagan Lakers / Kamloops) guided the Thompson-Okanagan Lakers to a second-place finish in the Female U18 regular season standings with a 16-13-1-2 record. The Lakers placed second in a multitude of categories, including goals for (88) and goals against (81). In his first season behind the bench in the BCEHL, Patterson led Thompson-Okanagan to a finals appearance in the BCEHL Female U18 playoffs.

Kyle Spencer (Greater Vancouver Canadians) - U18 AAA

Kyle Spencer (Greater Vancouver Canadians / St. Albert, AB) led the Greater Vancouver Canadians to a first-place finish in the regular season standings in the U18 AAA league with a record of 27-4-3-2. Mack O'Rourke (Okanagan Rockets) - U17 AAA

Mack O'Rourke (Okanagan Rockets / Kelowna) and the Okanagan Rockets wrapped up the regular season with a record of 22-10-3-1, which was good for second place in the regular season standings. In his first season with the U17 Rockets and second with the Rockets program, O'Rourke's squad turned it on in the playoffs, as they were crowned U17 Champions after defeating the Fraser Valley Thunderbirds in the best-of-three championship series.

Max Mowat (Okanagan Rockets) - U15 AAA
