BCEHL - 2024 WHL DRAFT RECAP

Saanichton, B.C. - The British Columbia Elite Hockey League (BCEHL) saw 12 players selected in the 2024 Western Hockey League (WHL) Draft on Thursday, which included six members of the Fraser Valley Thunderbirds who heard their names called.

 

Koltin Herfst - Victoria Royals (37th overall, U15 AAA Fraser Valley Thunderbirds)

Koltin Herfst was the first BCEHL player selected in the 2024 WHL Draft when the Victoria Royals chose the defender with the 37th overall pick. The Fraser Valley Thunderbirds captain finished second in scoring among U15 defenders with 35 points (9g-26a) in 28 games played. The Chilliwack Minor Hockey Association (MHA) product added five points (2g-3a) in six games during the U15 Championship, and helped his squad to the U15 AAA Championship.

 

Connor Feeney - Calgary Hitmen (91st overall, U15 AAA Cariboo Cougars)

Cariboo Cougars defender Connor Feeney was the second BCEHL player off the board when he was selected by the Calgary Hitmen with the 91st overall pick. The Cougars' captain chipped in 17 points (8g-9a) over 20 regular season contests. At the U15 Championship, Feeney scored at a point-per-game pace, with four points (2g-2a) across four games.

 

Riley Charlton - Vancouver Giants (94th overall, U15 AAA Fraser Valley Thunderbirds)

Riley Charlton became the second member of the Fraser Valley Thunderbirds chosen in the 2024 WHL Draft when the Vancouver Giants made him the 94th overall selection. The 6'2" forward finished sixth among U15 skaters with 40 points (15g-25a) in 30 regular season contest during the 2023-24 season. Charlton was a key part of the Thunderbirds' championship run, as the Chilliwack MHA product had four assists in seven contests.

 

Von Lakovic - Kelowna Rockets (113th overall, U15 AAA Okanagan Rockets)

Drafted by his hometown team, the fourth BCEHL player selected in the 2024 WHL Draft was Von Lakovic of the Okanagan Rockets. The West Kelowna MHA product led the Rockets in scoring during the regular season, as he put up 26 points (13g-13a) in 28 games played.

 

Lucas Wiercioch - Everett Silvertips (125th overall, U15 AAA Fraser Valley Thunderbirds)

The run on Fraser Valley Thunderbird skaters continued when the Everett Silvertips chose Lucas Wiercioch with the 125th overall selection in the 2024 WHL Draft. Wiercioch chipped in 22 points (9g-13a) in 30 regular season games, and was a part of the top defense in the U15 league, allowing only 1.23 goals per game.

 

Blake Mumford - Tri-City Americans (144th overall, U15 AAA Thompson Blazers)

Thompson Blazers' Blake Mumford became the first BCEHL goaltender selected in the 2024 WHL Draft when the Tri-City Americans took him with the 144th overall pick. The Kamloops MHA product appeared in 15 games between the pipes for the Blazers, where he posted a record of 5-7-1-2.

 

Davin Chyld - Prince George Cougars (176th overall, U15 AAA Fraser Valley Thunderbirds)

Goaltender Davin Chyld was the fourth member of the 2023-24 BCEHL U15 Champions selected in the 2024 WHL Draft. Selected by the Prince George Cougars with the 176th overall pick, Chyld was a 2023-24 U15 All-Star and finished the season with a record of 13-2-0-1.

 

Sebastien Brisebois - Kelowna Rockets (189th overall, U15 AAA Vancouver NE Chiefs)

Forward Sebastien Brisebois was the eighth BCEHL player selected as the Kelowna Rockets made him the 189th overall selection in the 2024 WHL Draft. The Vancouver NE Chiefs forward skated in 30 games during the regular season, and finished with 27 points (14g-13a).

 

Tobin Schaefer - Moose Jaw Warriors (195th overall, U15 AAA Vancouver NW Hawks)

Vancouver NW Hawks forward Tobin Schaefer became a member of the Moose Jaw Warriors organization when he was selected with the 195th overall pick. Schaefer found the back of the net 16 times and added 13 assists during the regular season, which led all Hawks' skaters.

 

Tristan Anderlini - Kamloops Blazers (200th overall, U15 AAA Fraser Valley Thunderbirds)

Fraser Valley Thunderbird players continued to go off the board as defender Tristan Anderlini was the 200th overall selection by the Kamloops Blazers. The 14-year-old laced up in 26 games for the Thunderbirds during the 2023-24 season, and put up 11 points (1g-10a).

 

Carter Rebman - Edmonton Oil Kings (226th overall, U15 AAA Okanagan Rockets)

Carter Rebman was the second Okanagan Rocket selected as the Edmonton Oil Kings made him the 226th overall selection in the 2024 WHL Draft. Rebman's 22 points (3g-19a) was tied for fourth in scoring among all U15 defenders during the 2023-24 season.

 

Maysen Devries - Lethbridge Hurricanes (278th overall, U15 Fraser Valley Thunderbirds)

Maysen Devries marked the 12th BCEHL player and sixth member of the Fraser Valley Thunderbirds chosen in the 2024 WHL Draft. The 5"11' defender skated in 25 games this past season with the U15 Champions, and totaled 15 points (4g-11a).
