BCEHL PLAYERS OF THE MONTH - NOVEMBER 2022

For Immediate Release

December 8, 2022

Saanichton, B.C. – Each month during the season, the British Columbia Elite Hockey League (BCEHL) honours one player from each of the four leagues as the BCEHL Player of the Month for their respective league. Every team has the opportunity to nominate an individual from their team to be considered for the monthly award. This award is not based strictly on statistics. Team staff factors in the player’s on-and-off ice contributions towards the team as well as their involvement within the community and minor hockey mentorship.

Here are your Players of the Month for November!

Female U18 AAA

#9 Cate Doerksen

Vancouver Island Seals
MHA: Cowichan Valley
Forward
3G-3A

During the month of November, Cate Doerksen’s on-ice performance, along with the example that she sets for her teammates, led her to be named the Female U18 AAA Player of the Month. According to Vancouver Island Seals’ General Manager Katrina Hawkins, Doerksen is one of the team’s top leaders, who pushes her teammates to step up their level of play through her intensity on the ice.

Statistically, Doerksen had a great month. In four BCEHL games, the Seals’ forward recorded six points (3g-3a), which included a four-point performance (1g-3a) in a 5-2 Seals’ victory over the Greater Vancouver Comets on November 19.

On November 30, Doerksen committed to attend Nipissing University in North Bay, Ontario, and play on the Women's Hockey Team.

Josh Kelly earned Player of the Month honours in the U18 AAA league, having impacts both on-and-off the ice. In the community, Kelly and his teammates spent time collecting donations for the Salvation Army’s Holiday Kettle Campaign. Kelly also committed additional hours at the rink, mentoring U17, U15 and minor hockey affiliates during skill development sessions.

On the ice, Kelly enjoyed a successful month of November. The Chiefs' forward helped guide his team to a 5-0-1-0 record in the month, finding the back of the net nine times and adding three assists. The Port Moody MHA product propelled to the top of the goal scoring race, where he currently sits atop all U18 skaters with 16 goals on the season

#85 Linkin Niedoba

South Island Royals
MHA: Juan de Fuca

A combination of on-ice success and involvement in the community makes Linkin Niedoba a deserving recipient of Player of the Month honours in the U17 AAA league. Niedoba’s community involvement included participating in a Remembrance Day ceremony, and Christmas decorating at a senior’s home. Niedoba’s off-ice efforts sets a positive example for his teammates and shows them how to conduct themselves in society, according to South Island Royals General Manager Jason Leslie.

During the month of November, the Royals’ defender scored at a point-per-game pace, posting seven points (4g-3a) in seven games.
