BCEHL WEEKEND UPDATE - JANUARY 24-28

Saanichton, B.C. - It's time to kick off another action-packed week in the BCEHL, with a full slate of matchups set to hit the ice in the U18, U17 and U15 leagues. Let's take a look at what to keep an eye on!

 

Female U18 AAA

The Female U18 AAA league is not in action this weekend as they have a league-wide bye. During the bye week, two of the league's teams will be attending tournaments.

U18 AAA

U18 AAA Featured Series: A showdown between the third-place Fraser Valley Thunderbirds (20-5-1-0) and the fourth-place Okanagan Rockets (16-8-1-1) takes place in Kelowna this weekend. Fraser Valley enters the weekend with a record of 8-1-1-0 over their last 10 games, outscoring their opponents 57-20 during that span. Trailing the Thunderbirds by seven points in the standings, the Rockets boast a record of 7-2-1-0 over their last 10, led by the duo of Brayden Rotach (6g-10a) and Maguire Nicholson (8g-8a), who've both picked up 16 points over their last 10 games.

U17 AAA

U17 AAA Featured Series: With only seven points separating the second-place and eighth-place teams in the U17 league, valuable points in the standings will be on the line when the fourth-place Valley West Giants (14-10-3-1) and sixth-place Thompson Blazers (12-13-0-3) take to the ice. Blazers' forward Keegan Sanders brings a 14-game point streak into the weekend, recording 32 points (20g-12a) over that span. Sanders currently sits first among all U17 skaters in goals (30), power play goals (7) and points (48). The Giants second ranked offense, averaging 3.68 goals per game on the season, is powered by Carter Scott (14g-20a), Blake Medalla (13g-19a), Cody Wales (16g-10a) and Joshua Lee (1g-23a), who have all averaged a point-per-game or better on the season.

U15 AAA

U15 AAA Featured Series: The seventh-place Vancouver Island Royals (5-11-0-4) and eighth-place Thompson Blazers (5-11-2-0) will go head-to-head this weekend in Logan Lake on Saturday, and at the outdoor rink at Sun Peaks Resort on Sunday. This will be the first ever BCEHL game held at the mountain resort. The Royals picked up victories in both games against the Blazers this season, led by forward Kane Nicholas' five points (4g-1a). Blazers' defender Nathan Kayer has five points (1g-4a) in his last five games and ranks third in team scoring with 11 points (3g-8a) in 17 games played.
